The suona, also called the laba or horn, is a kind of Chinese wind instrument. 'Phoenix Tail Bamboo under Moonlight' (月光下的凤尾竹) is one of the most famous melodies played on a hulusi. The center pipe has finger holes while the two on both sides are the drone pipes.īecause of its unique and beautiful sound and simple, gentle, and elegant appearance, and because it is easy to learn, the hulusi is popular with primary and middle school students, music lovers, and China travelers from home and abroad. A hulusi has three bamboo pipes and a gourd wind chest at the end with the mouthpiece. The hulusi, a kind of free-reed wind instrument, is one of the musical instruments specially associated with Yunnan (and South China) ethnic minorities. In Chinese, zhiyin (知音, literally 'to know the tone') means a close friend. These melodies have also been used to express the ideal of real friendship by the Chinese. Bo Ya broke his guqin after Zhong Ziqi died. These guqin pieces were originally played by a famous Chinese musician called Bo Ya, who had a close friend called Zhong Ziqi who fully understood Bo Ya's music. The famous melodies Gao Shan 《高山》 ('High Mountains') and Liu Shui 《流水》('Flowing Water') are played with the guqin. It is generally representative of traditional Chinese musical culture. The guqin is known as the 'father of Chinese music' or the 'instrument of the sages' by the Chinese. It is said that Confucius liked to play the guqin when he was teaching his students. It can produce sounds of great subtlety and refinement, which are favored by many great scholars and musicians. The guqin's main part is a long, narrow wooden soundbox. It is also called the qixianqin or 'seven-stringed zither' (七弦琴), as it has seven strings. The guqin is one of the oldest plucked instruments in China. Guqin 古琴 - Chinese Seven-String Instrument The melody she played was called Zhaojun's Lament (昭君怨), and it is often played in Chinese opera.ĥ. From then on, Zhaojun got the nickname 'falling geese' or 'dropping birds'.She was one of the 'four beauties' fabled in Chinese history. It is said that a flock of geese flying southward heard the music and forgot to flap their wings and fell to the ground. She took out her pipa and played sorrowful melodies. On the way to the new place, Wang Zhaojun felt sad and homesick on her saddle. One of the famous stories is about Wang Zhaojun, who was sent to the northwest of China to marry a ruler to keep the peace between two nations. There are many ancient stories and poems about this instrument. The pipa has been played for more than 2,000 years in China. Pipa musicians are mainly seen on stage or perhaps as entertainers at special parties or restaurants. Steel strings are now used, so players wear special finger plectra. Modern pipas have been re-engineered to fit better with Western-style music. One hole is covered with paper so that the flute has a peculiar buzzing sound that people like. Dizis generally have six or more finger holes. It is a kind of Chinese transverse flute that is often played in Chinese folk music or opera. The dizi or hengdi is another popular Chinese musical instrument. 'Two Springs Reflect the Moon' became an exquisite example of Chinese traditional instrument music. He composed the music to express the grief of his bitter life in the old society. The music was composed by a blind streetside folk musician called Ah Bing (阿炳). The most famous piece of erhu music in China is 'Two Springs Reflect the Moon' (二泉映月). It allows for a high degree of virtuosity, covers three octaves, and can be made to imitate the sound of Chinese singing as well as birds and horses. Erhus generally retain their traditional tuning system, so they may sound odd to Western ears. Besides the amazing features that you will not find in the official game. The ability to mix layers more flexibly is a welcome change, too. The New Principled BSDF shader makes the process of creating complex materials significantly more straight forward with the ability to conserve more energy and generally be more efficient. The fact that it continues to be absolutely free makes what the Blender team have achieved even more impressive. (Image credit: Gaku Tada)īlender 4.0 comes with a number of impressive improvements that will help artists take their creativity to a new level. Should I get Blender 4.0?Ī demo scene created by Gaku Tada (CC-BY-SA) to showcase Blender 4.0's new features. The only thing that isn't immediately obvious is the fact that if you add objects to the list but then untick them all, Blender 4.0 will automatically apply the light or shadow link to all of the objects 'except' the ones listed. Drag and drop objects from the outliner into each category to see the effects. From there, you'll find two sections, one for Light Linking and one for Shadow Linking. Artists can take advantage of this feature by selecting a light and going to the 'Shading' rollout. Much more flexibility, much more control.Įverything centres around each light and makes it easy to conceptualise exactly what is and isn't being included. If a shadow is causing problems in the overall look of the image then just remove it. The ability to brighten up one side of an object or a particular area of the scene is fantastic. The possibilities of flexibility here are endless and I'm sure you can imagine the benefits to your own workflow. In essence, the feature enables you set which objects will receive light and which objects will cast shadows from a light. I'm so glad to see it though because I've enjoyed it in V-Ray for a long while, and now Blender 4.0 is aping that renderer. The new light and shadow linking functionality gives an increased level of control to artists that just hasn't been seen before in Blender. The new light and shadow linking feature in Blender 4.0 apes V-Ray and takes this 3D software up a level. Blender 4.0 review: Light and shadow linking Overall, the results of this are really nice and enable a much smoother workflow when working with this type of material. I think a slider from 0 to 2 would have been more obvious. I don’t personally find the IOR level slider particularly intuitive in terms of the effect it has but, in essence, 0.5 is the standard amount that has no effect, 0 removes it entirely, and 1 doubles it. It is possible therefore to really easily increase and decrease the IOR effect on the shader. It is now possible to set the IOR value to whatever you want alongside the IOR level, which acts as a multiplier for the IOR value. The IOR is used for the rays that enter the subsurface component. This increased accuracy has largely been funnelled through the implementation of the Index of Refraction (IOR), which is now utilised fully throughout the whole shader. The shader is quicker but more importantly more accurate than ever before. This shader, thankfully, has received a complete overhaul especially for Blender 4.0. Blender 4.0 review: User interfaceīlender 4.0's new Principles BSDF shader is more accurate and quicker than ever before. In my Blender 4.0 review below I'll take a look at some of these impressive new features and explain how they work and whether then can really put Blender on a new footing against expensive industry software. This is an artist's dream come true because it enables the fine tuning of an image in new ways. This excellent feature gives unbelievable control over the final rendered output, enabling artists to control which lights affect which objects. On top of this, a light linking feature, that has been available in the likes of V-Ray for a while has now, has been introduced. The New Principled BSDF shader is now set up to conserve even more energy and be noticeably more flexible due to a new way to mix layers. New features in Blender 4.0 centre around rendering and creation tools enabling artists to create even better materials and therefore renders. We also have a collection of the best Blender tutorials to see what it's capable of doing (and how to do it). If you're new to this 3D software, read my explainer, ' Blender: everything you need to know' where I detail its core features and tool. This latest release is another stake in the ground demonstrating why and how Blender, a free 3D app to enable the creation of animated films, visual effects, art and more, is taking the fight to industry heavy weights like 3ds Max. GPU Graphics card that supports OpenGL 4.3īlender 4.0 continues to grow and develop the free 3D software into an increasingly mature digital content creator. Processor 64-bit quad core CPU with SSE4.2 support The video track is unknown.SFVip Player The best Player for IPTV on Windows If it does end up mattering for some reason, assuming your collection is just for your personal use and not distribution, the audio track language setting shouldn't matter in any other way, so there'd be no reason for you not to just label those Japanese tracks English.įor what it's worth, the shows I was testing with that either always or often have forced subs (Game of Thrones and Emily in Paris) have audio tracks marked English. Just make sure your Kodi audio setting is set to Media Default (if your files have multiple audio tracks) and the language setting within the file won't matter. If you want to test the theory that audio language matters, make a copy of one of your anime files, use JMkvpropedit to change the Japanese audio track to English, and try it. The subtitle's language setting matters because there might be multiple forced subs. So if it detects a properly named/flagged forced subtitle, it displays it. The only things Kodi weighs are the Language setting (Settings/Player/Language) and either how a sub is titled (for external subs) or flagged (embedded subs). And this works flawlessly as long as those subs are named correctly (external) or flagged with the right language (embedded).Īudio track language isn't supposed to matter. Otherwise, "UI interface language" is for people that always want subs on AND want Kodi to automatically select the one in their native language. That setting will then only be overridden by subs with the Forced flag/name. You can make it do forced only by selecting it and then turning off subtitles by default (typically by playing a movie, turning subs off in the player while it's playing, and clicking the option to have that be the default for all files). "UI interface language" has dual functionality. My understanding of the "Forced Only" setting is that it's a one-stop option to set it up the way I described. You can use MKVtoolnix to check those settings and/or JMkvpropedit to update batches of files in seconds. So even if you have subtitles turned off by default, forced subtitles properly flagged as forced and set to your UI default language (English in my case) will override and automatically display. So I used JMkvpropedit to easily and quickly update all my subs to English and that fixed it. When I first tried making it work that way (before PKC), the thing that made it not work is that my subtitle files weren't set to English (usually unknown/unspecified). In truth, both "Forced only" and "UI interface language" make it work the way I want - no subtitles on by default unless they're forced. Now that I've got it sorted, I can tell you what works for me. It's possible to mitigate the delay for embedded subs by doing a one-second seek, but that's the best I've discovered. So that's one way external subs are better. srt files at least, switching is instant. Switching incurs a 10 second delay before the subs start to appear, while turning on/off is instant. There's also a long-time shortcoming in how Kodi handles switching between embedded subs compared to simply turning them on and off. I also implemented a "What did he say?" feature like Apple TV has. I do need the PC to process it, but it's seamless with my MCE receiver and universal remote. I've implemented this in Autohotkey using the JSON API, so it works on any device. I'm strictly album-oriented and don't add frequently, so this isn't too bad.Ībout Plex, if it can run the subtitles show, how does it handle the toggle subtitles command when forced subs are present in addition to regular subs? Kodi gets this wrong and simply turns the forced subs on and off, when the sensible thing is to switch between the forced subs and the regular ones. I go to Files and scan new music individually. What takes forever is updating the Music library, which is huge, so I don't do that anymore. My Movies/TV library is maybe half that size, and thankfully, updates usually take less than a minute on my Sony A80J TV. For discussion of those add-ons, feel free to visit /r/Addons4Kodi. There are no known side effects of taking colloidal sliver correctly– meaning in small doses and not for extended periods of time. Silver has been used for over three thousand years as an antimicrobial, for infections (internally and topically), for preserving foods and liquids, and medicinally. The particles of silver are small enough to penetrate and destroy pathogens, bacteria, fungal spores, parasites, and viruses on a cellular level. With a free Onshape account, you can copy the document into your account. The CAD design is public, and you can find the document at this link. I’ve recently been using Onshape quite a bit, and I modeled this part in Onshape. What do you think? Have you made any parts that incorporated PreForm-generated support structures into the part design? It resulted in a much taller part, but it’s essentially the same. This was silly, so I added a feature to hold a cable in place. Because I have a relatively old iPhone 6, it loses power quickly, and I found myself often putting the phone in the holder horizontally with the cable sticking out the side. This version came out great, printed in tough (V5) with 100µm thick layers.Īnother coworker suggested that I design it to allow for a charging cable. Once imported into PreForm, I didn’t adjust the orientation at all because ultimately the support raft will become the base of the part. To add some fun to it, I put a snail sketch in the middle of the part that is also held up by support structures. Next I designed a thin part that cradles the back perimeter of the phone as well as the bottom edge. The “phone” was impossible to remove without destroying the supports. I also realized that the small support structures could scratch the phone body. Any attempt to remove the supports resulted in their destruction. Immediately I ran into the issue that the model was fairly robust but the support structures were easy to break and remove. The idea was that I would remove the model, post-cure the support, and then be able to put my phone where the model was. So I printed an iPhone 6 model, angled 25 degrees from vertical. I got to thinking that it would be awesome to have a phone holder that was entirely made of support structures, each touch tip cradling the phone. Over the year, the team at Formlabs has done a decent job reducing the amount of resin spent on generating support structures (especially with the mini rafts introduced earlier this year), but at the end of the day support structures end up as waste.Ī few weeks ago, a coworker asked if I could help her print a phone holder for her desk. For a while I have been interested in incorporating auto-generated support structures into the final part geometry for 3D print jobs using PreForm, Formlabs’ printer driver software. |
